Livingstone Shire Council recently undertook a ‘temporary road closure’ on Farnborough Beach, between HInz Avenue and Sandy Point for the months of November, December 2022 and January 2023 between the hours of 8pm until 4am.
Council made the decisions based on advice from residents, Queensland Police Service, local government employees, and from visitors to Farnborough Beach who have all witnessed the errant driver behaviour on Farnborough Beach. Council has also received expert advice from various state government departments, community groups and internal staff that the non-desirable driver behaviour is causing much damage to the coastal dunes and the delicate coastal ecosystem, including the turtle nesting areas.
Council would like to congratulate motorist for adhering to this temporary trial. Our cameras registered a very low number of vehicles accessing the beach during the restricted hours. It is now timely for the community to provide feedback regarding the temporary road closure.
Council is committed to ensuring that all options regarding driving along Farnborough Beach are considered. This must, however, be in a safe and environmentally sustainable way. An overall masterplan is under consideration and you can help assist us by completing this survey and providing information regarding the trial that occurred in the months of November, December 2022 and January 2023 which allowed motorists access from 4am until 8pm daily.
The survey will open 6 March 2023 and will close on 19 March 2023. Answer survey below to have your say.
