The Bottlebrush Drive connection will provide an important secondary access route between the Old Scenic Highway and Chandler Road, improving connectivity and strengthening the local road network during road closures, incidents, and major community events.

The project forms part of Council’s broader long-term approach to improving transport connectivity across the Taranganba and Taroomball areas as the region continues to grow.

Bottlebrush Drive is classified as a minor urban collector road, and connecting the two existing sections completes the road network as established through previous development approvals. Construction of the final connection is currently anticipated to be completed by late 2026 and will be delivered by the developer as part of the Marina Breeze development.

Council is continuing to progress major transport initiatives, including the East West Connector, to help strengthen the wider road network and reduce pressure on local residential streets over time. Council is also advocating for future connectivity upgrades, including the long-term extension of Chandler Road between the Scenic Highway and Tanby Road, which could help reduce congestion and discourage rat-running through residential areas.

Local Area Traffic Management and Upgrades along Bottlebrush Drive

To support the safe and effecient operation of the new connection, Council is taking a proactive approach to managing local traffic impacts through a range of traffic management, pedestrian safety and future planning initiatives. Importantly, no major works will occur immediately, with the current focus on detailed planning, design development and safety assessments ahead of the future road opening.

Planned upgrades and investigations include:

  • Installation of Local Area Traffic Management (LATM) devices, including chicanes at two locations
  • Footpath upgrades near Sacred Heart School and a new supervised raised pedestrian crossing
  • An independent road safety audit of Bottlebrush Drive and the proposed upgrade design
  • Advocacy for additional flashing school zone signage through Queensland Department of Transport and Main Roads programs
  • Concept planning for future missing footpath links to support future business cases and network prioritisation
  • Investigation of additional traffic calming measures near Mahogany Way.

Council will continue working closely with affected residents as planning progresses and will provide advance notice of future construction activities, including timing, expected impacts, and construction schedules.
