Livingstone Shire Council has secured funding from the Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport to deliver an ‘Active Women and Girls’ program.

The program will provide women and girls with accessible, enjoyable, and affordable opportunities to engage in physical activity and other wellness sessions.

The program will encourage previously inactive women to start participating in physical activity and discover activities they enjoy, helping them build sustainable, healthy habits that improve both physical and mental wellbeing.

The program will be delivered in two separate 6-week blocks, with each program capped at 100 registrations.

The Healthy and Active Livingstone: Let’s Move Program aims to create a supportive and motivating environment where women and girls can engage in physical activity, build confidence, and develop lasting habits that benefit their overall health.

Key to this program’s success is a holistic approach, which will address both physical and mental wellbeing. Participants will receive guidance in areas such as:

  • Mindset development
  • Goal setting
  • Building self-esteem and confidence
  • Stress management and relaxation techniques
  • Improving sleep quality
  • Nutrition education
  • Creating long-term habits for physical and mental health.

By integrating these elements, we aim to empower participants to improve their overall wellbeing and foster a culture of movement within the community.

  • Participants will register to join the program and commit to prioritising their health and wellbeing throughout the 6-week duration.
  • The program will feature a variety of physical activities catering to different fitness levels, ages, and interests.
  • Activities will be offered at various times, including weekdays, evenings, and weekends, to accommodate different schedules and commitments.
  • All physical activities will be led by qualified facilitators and trainers.
  • All program activities will be provided at no cost to participants, with a goal of 100 registrations per program.
  • As part of the registration process, participants will commit to engaging in a minimum of 150 minutes of physical activity per week (in line with WHO guidelines), ensuring they receive maximum benefits and establish sustainable, healthy habits.
  • In addition to physical activity sessions, participants will receive a workbook and attend compulsory sessions on topics such as mindset, barriers to exercise, nutrition, and stress management for enhanced results.
  • Participants will be required to book activities/sessions via Humanitix online registration system.
  • Many activities will be held in public spaces, fostering community engagement, and promoting the use of local parks and open areas.
  • The focus of the program is on increasing physical activity and overall wellbeing, not weight loss.
  • Participants will have the opportunity to build lasting relationships with other women and girls, creating a sense of community and shared commitment to health.
  • Participants and facilitators will be invited to join a private Facebook group, a safe online space to ask questions, share successes, post encouraging photos, and build community support.

As a program facilitator, your role will be to help participants achieve the following goals in partnership with Council and other program facilitators:

  • Assist participants in overcoming barriers to physical activity.
  • Encourage women and girls to prioritise their health and wellbeing.
  • Foster a welcoming, inclusive environment where participants feel supported to engage in activities and share in the experience.
  • Promote physical and mental wellbeing, helping participants build habits that support both body and mind.
  • Empower participants to continue their healthy habits beyond the program’s duration, creating lasting lifestyle changes.
