Name Change for Livingstone Shire Council

Livingstone Shire Council Councillors resolved to progress a name change for the Shire. Capricorn Coast Regional Council will provide us with a number of advantages such as:

Recognition, Promotion and Community

The identity of the community to a shire or region is focused primarily on a sense of belonging to a particular geographical area, regional identity as the 'identity of a region' or as a supposed combination of this identity and 'regional consciousness' has become a very popular, clearly international topic in cultural, political and economic geography. Residents and visitors are often familiar with locations like the Gold Coast, the Fraser Coast, the Sunshine Coast and of course the beautiful Capricorn Coast.

Raising our profile will enhance the area’s ability to attract national and international private investment, and create better opportunities for residents and businesses by helping to build an increasingly diversified local economy and vibrant community. It will also allow the area to be marketed as a progressive place of choice and bolster existing tourism marketing efforts.

Alignment with State Government Strategy

The Queensland Government priorities, outlined below, are all relevant within the Livingstone Shire area. The State Government’s commitment to Queensland communities to attract investment and drive a stronger economy aligns with what Council is aiming to achieve through the attainment of city status, albeit on a smaller, local scale.

State Government priorities for the Queensland community:

  • Create jobs in a strong economy;
  • Give all our children a great start;
  • Keep Queenslanders healthy;
  • Keep communities safe;
  • Protect the Great Barrier Reef; and
  • Be a responsive government.
