About the project

The Great Keppel Island (Woppa) Arrivals Plaza and Amenities project is a catalyst initiative identified in the Great Keppel Island (Woppa) Concept Master Plan. It aims to create a vibrant, culturally-informed arrival experience that celebrates the island’s unique character and welcomes visitors to this iconic destination.

The concept includes a new amenities building with toilets, change facilities, lockers, and a flexible tenancy space for potential commercial use. Generous outdoor areas will offer shaded seating, beach showers, BBQs, and boardwalk access to Fisherman’s Beach and ferry services.

Positioned adjacent to the island’s main accommodation providers, the plaza will create a strong sense of arrival and encourage further exploration of the island. This project represents an important step in realising the island’s long-term vision to rejuvenate tourism, support local businesses, and reflect the cultural and environmental values of Woppa.

Project Update - May 2026

Construction continues to advance on the Great Keppel Island (Woppa) Arrivals Plaza and Amenities project, with significant progress made across several components of the site during May.

A major milestone has now been reached with concrete works completed for the Arrivals Plaza, including footings, slab and hobs. Concrete works for the new Fisherman’s Beach amenities building have also been finalised, marking another important step forward as the project begins to take shape on site.

Manufacturing of the Fisherman’s Beach amenities is currently progressing offsite, with materials anticipated to arrive in early June ahead of installation works. Structural steel has also been delivered to the island, with crews continuing installation works across the project area as the framework for key structures becomes increasingly visible.

Looking ahead, pedestrian boardwalk components are expected to arrive on site in mid-June, bringing the project another step closer to delivering improved connectivity and accessibility for residents and visitors alike. Fabrication of the project’s unique placemaking statues is also continuing, with the custom elements set to contribute to the character and identity of the revitalised arrivals area.
